Deerchase repairs, pending equipment arrival

After heavy rainfall, two weeks ago, pooled and collapsed a bridge on Deerchase Road, the Stephens County Road Department has been working to repair the road so that residents of Deerchase will be able to regain entrance to their road as soon as possible.

As previously reported, the Stephens County Road Department were developing drainage calculations to determine the correct structure to fit the drainage.

According to Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers the county has enlisted the help of an engineer.

“We’ve brought in someone else to look at it, an engineer, to measure the water flow going into that area for a 25-year rain-event,” Ayers said. “The most practical solution is we’re going to be installing three pipes and a culvert system there. We will do the work in-house. We have the pipes on order, and it will take about 5 days to get the pipes. And once all the equipment comes in and the weather allows, it’ll be all hands on deck getting that done. It’ll be about a 3-day job.”

Ayers added that the project has been a main priority for both the county and the City of Toccoa.

The city of Toccoa have moved existing lines and rerouted them to bypass the compromised road.
