Deadline to register for Family Connection’s Scarecrow Walk is Friday

Family Connection is hosting a fundraising event in downtown Toccoa.

Family Connection of Stephens County Executive Director Noel Pauley says while many fall festivals are being forced to cancel due to COVID-19,  Family Connection has decided to host a Scarecrow Walk as an alternative event for families to enjoy.

She says businesses, churches, organizations, and even individuals will enter scarecrows that will line the back and side around the Historic Stephens County Courthouse walkways.

Families will be able to enjoy these scarecrows throughout the month of October and vote on their favorites.

Pauley tells WNEG News that while COVID-19 has taken a lot from our community, it cannot take away our creativity.

In order to make the event a success, Family Connection is looking for businesses or organizations that will enter a scarecrow into the competition.

Family Connection is asking groups to provide a $40 donation when entering a scarecrow.

Pauley says this is an opportunity to do something creative to make families smile.

Funds raised will benefit the programs of Family Connection of Stephens County.

Programs include the Stephens County Schools Mentoring Program, First Steps Maternal Education Services, Mental Health Consortium, and the efforts of the Prevent Child Abuse Stephens Council.

Registrations for the Scarecrow Walk are due back by Friday, September 25.
