For the first time, A husband and wife received the active WNEG Seniors of the Year at the 2019 WNEG Senior Expo at the Stephens County Recreation Department Rose Lane Activity Center on Thursday.

Mike and Brenda Anderson Jones were presented the award in front of fellow seniors. Brenda Anderson Jones was thankful “It’s an honor, I want to cry.”

The Jones were chosen for their active support and encouragement for others. They have delivered Meals on Wheels for other seniors for many years, and are active in their church at Liberty Baptist including: driving the senior bus, providing transportation to the doctor, visiting the sick and shut-in, and mailing cards out to the sick and those in need of encouragement.

Mike Jones says it is not about recognition for them “We just do it because we enjoy helping people and God has blessed us to be able to do that. It’s an honor to help people. It makes you feel good when you can do something to help people.” Brenda added “when you visit people you go to help them, but when you leave it helps you.”

Approximately 350 seniors attended the 17th annual WNEG Senior Expo on Thursday which included health screenings, information, free lunch from Bojangles of Toccoa, and door prizes.
