County Announces New Election Supervisor, Chief Appraiser

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners, earlier in the month announced that Deputy Election Supervisor Issac Overstreet has been named as the Stephens County Election Supervisor, filling the seat left vacant when former Election Supervisor Bruce Carlisle resigned to take the helm at the Toccoa Police Department.

WNEG News spoke to County Administrator Christian Hamilton about the selection.

Yesterday, WNEG News caught up with Overstreet to talk about how he is settling into the position.

He talked briefly about the process that is just getting underway, working with state officials, to determine the details of the special election to fill two vacant  superior court judge seats in the Mountain Judicial Circuit as well as the Public Service Commission election being held statewide this year, as well as the local SPLOST election and City of Toccoa Municipal Election, with the plan for all elections in Stephens County to be held at the Historic Courthouse.

He added that he is maintaining the office’s Open Door policy, and anyone with any election or voter registration questions is welcome to contact the office or visit the elections office inside the historic courthouse.

Hamilton also announced that the county has promoted long-time County Assessor’s office employee Michelle Orange  to the position of Chief Appraiser after the resignation of  Brad Goss.

He talked about the challenges of serving in a government position.

Hamilton said the Appraiser’s Office will bear a large amount of the responsibility that comes with any implementation of House Bill 581 regulations and changes in the coming months and years.
