Cops and Kids program slated for tomorrow
Stephens County Commissioner and President of the Northeast Georgia Lodge 105 Fraternal Order of Police Dennis Bell recently told WNEG News about the annual Cops and Kids program scheduled for tomorrow morning at 9 a.m., held at the Toccoa Wal-mart.
The annual event utilizes the funds raised throughout the year to provide needy children throughout the region with a day of shopping with an officer to pick out toys that they want for Christmas.
This year the Lodge plans to provide 28 to 32 children with $100 each, Bell said.
Bell added that the children they help are often selfless, and try to buy gifts for their family rather than for themselves.
“It really break your heart, because these kids don’t even think about themselves, they think about their parents and siblings and what they could buy them, instead of what they could by themselves. It just break your heart,” Bell said.
Several agencies will be represented tomorrow, including Oglethorpe Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Hart County Sheriff’s Office, and possibly the Stephens County Sheriff’s office and Toccoa Police Department, Bell added.
“The Lodge host fundraisers throughout the year, but this year we received fewer donations, so we really want to ask people to please continue sending donations so we can continue doing this annual event,” he said.
You can make donations to the Northeast Georgia Lodge 105 Fraternal Order of Police, by sending checks the lodge at P.O. Box 755, Lavonia Ga, 30553.
