Cops and Kids program huge success
This past Saturday several children left Wal-Mart with smiles on their faces, an array of goodies and $100 each in Christmas presents.
The annual Cops and Kids program, sponsored by The Northeast Georgia Lodge 105 Fraternal Order of Police, provided 31 children from Stephens and surrounding counties with a chance to check off many of their needed items, such as clothes, along with some of their most wanted toys on each of their Christmas lists.
Stephens County Commissioner and President of the Northeast Georgia Lodge 105 Fraternal Order of Police, Dennis Bell, was very pleased by the turnout this year; however, he does request that those interested in donating for next year’s Cops and Kids program can do so by mailing checks to P.O. Box 755, Lavonia Ga, 30553.
Bell spoke with WNEG News during the event and explained how rewarding this program is for all of the officers involved.
“So far we’re off to a great start. We’re making sure 31 children are going to have what they need and some of what they want for Christmas this year. That’s what it’s all about, to make sure these children don’t go without,” Bell said.
Jeff Love, secretary and treasurer for the Northeast Georgia Lodge 105 Fraternal Order of Police explained that this was the 10th annual Cops and Kid Program, and was very thankful of the support they receive from the Toccoa Wal-Mart.
Love also added that FOP is an organization that he is proud to be a part of.
FOP not only helps provide children when Christmas presents, they also help other police officers who may be experiencing a hard time, Love said.
Sharaye Hill, of Elberton, told WNEG News about what the Cops and Kids program means to her and her family.
“The Cops and kids program really helps and is really special to us. It helps us save money, and it allows the children to get what they need. We’re really thankful for the program, and I love seeing the smiles on my children’s faces,” Hill said.
The total that the lodge spent this year on the Cops and Kids Program was $1,788.55.
Several agencies were represented, including Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Hart County Sheriff’s Office, and Stephens County Sheriff’s office, Bell added.
