Continued: Stephens County Grand Jury hands down Indictments

Continuing our coverage of the recent indictments handed down by the Stephens County Grand Jury.

Shane David Burrell and Katelyn Shianne Busby were indicted on one count of burglary in the second degree, theft by taking, and criminal trespassing.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on February 26, 2023, when the pair allegedly broke into the James A. Neal Training Center, located at 566 Alewine Drive, in Toccoa. They also allegedly took a Stealth Cam trail camera with a value of less than $1,500.

Derrick Brence Bensch was indicted for one count of armed robbery; home invasion; aggravated assault; exploitation and intimidation of a disabled adult, elderly person, or resident; five counts of theft by taking; and obstruction of an officer.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on February 16, 2023, when Bensch allegedly took a wallet, cell phone, and truck keys, by use of a handgun. He also entered the victim’s residence using the handgun to strike the victim in the face.

James Leanard Richie was indicted for one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine, criminal trespassing, two counts of obstruction of an officer, and possession of drug related objects.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on March 22, 2023.

Stephens Lawrence Stafford was indicted for robbery by sudden snatching.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred on April 6, 2021, when Stafford allegedly took a handbag by snatching it from the victim.

Terry Eugene Garner was indicted on one count of obstruction of an officer and one count of disorderly conduct.

According to the indictment, the charges stem from an incident that occurred on March 21, 2023, when Garner allegedly obstructed Toccoa Police Department’s Sergeant Kenneth Frady and allegedly acted in a violent and tumultuous manner towards a woman.

Kapena Teruich Akiyama and Jacob Lee Haywood were indicted for three counts of financial transaction card theft. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on November 27, 2022 when the pair took a Pinnacle Bank debit card issued to another person.
