Community Leaders react to passing of Bob Evans

Bob Evans, age 96, of Toccoa, passed away Sunday, April 13, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville. In 1968, Evans was approached by the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce and Stephens County Development Authority to move to Toccoa as the Executive Director of both groups. His passing this week has many community leaders remembering a great man who helped build the city and county into what it is today. Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce President Julie Paysen had these thoughts on the passing of Evans.

From 1968-1996, Evans was instrumental in bringing over 28 new industries to Toccoa. Stephens County Development Authority President and CEO Brittany Ivey said he was always a source of encouragement.

Many other accomplishments for Toccoa happened during Evans’ time, such as the building of the “Mall” downtown, as well as helping Toccoa become an All-American City in 1976. Stephens County Development Authority Board Chairman Brian Akin shared these thoughts on Evans.

Stephens County Commission Chair Tara Simmons had this to say about Evans’ leadership to the community.

Toccoa Mayor Terry Carter said he will be greatly missed.
