Commercial vehicle crash on Sunday closes New Liberty Road outside Clarkesville

Habersham County Emergency Services responded to a crash involving a single commercial truck on New Liberty Road outside Clarkesville on July 26, 2026, at approximately 11:17 a.m.

Engine 17, Engine 9, and Med 9 from Habersham County Emergency Services were dispatched to the reported motor vehicle collision with unknown injuries. Upon arrival, crews found that the driver had been ejected from the commercial vehicle.

For the safety of emergency responders and the public, New Liberty Road was closed in both directions. Engine 9 and Engine 17 remained on scene to block traffic until the Habersham County Road Department arrived and placed barricades at both ends of the roadway. Once the scene was secured, the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) advised fire units they could return to service.

Med 9 transported one patient to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment. At this time, no update on the patient’s condition is available.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash. The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office assisted GSP with initial response, traffic control, and road closures.

Due to the crash involving a commercial vehicle, the Georgia Department of Public Safety’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) also responded to the scene.

New Liberty Road remained closed from the time of the crash until approximately 4 p.m., when the roadway was reopened to traffic.
