City of Toccoa employees will now have Veterans Day off

City of Toccoa employees will now have Veterans Day off.

The decision came during the recent Toccoa City Commission meeting when Vice Mayor Jeanette Jamieson asked for support from her fellow commissioners to add Veterans Day to the list of City observed holidays.

Jamieson says it’s important to allow the city’s employees to observe Veterans Day.

Commissioner Terry Carter asked if Jamieson was making her request in the form of a motion.

“Yes,” she said.

“Then I second it,” he said.

Toccoa Mayor Evan Hellenga asked if City Manager Billy Morse needed to add anything for Jamieson’s request.

Morse said the city will make arrangements for its employees to have the day off.

Commissioner Gail Fry said this will let veterans know that the city does support them.

The motion was approved unanimously.

Veterans Day is observed annually on November 11.
