City Commission Approves Road Resurfacing Plan Using LMIG/SPLOST Funding

The City of Toccoa will begin work next year on resurfacing a number of roads.

In their regular meeting Monday, City Commissioners approved a recommendation from City Manager Billy Morse to submit a list of eight city streets to the Georgia Department of Transportation to be resurfaced in 2019 using Local Maintenance Improvement Grant funds.

Toccoa is slated to receive $159,039 from G-DOT in 2019.

With the City’s $47,711 match, the total funding for the resurfacing projects comes to $206,751.

In addition, the Commission approved Morse’s recommendation to add the remaining 2018 LMIG funds and accompanying City match to the 2019 resurfacing project bringing the total LMIG funds to $385,325.

Three more city streets will be resurfaced using $667,000 in SPLOSTVI funds .

Morse said the City plans to work with the County to resurface the 11 streets.

“They approved the whole package and the funding,” Morse said. “And they approved the recommendation that the City again work with the County to have them resurface the roads again. They did that for us last year and they did a great job at a good price and we want to work with them again.”

The roads to be resurfaced include:

  • Davis Avenue from Big A Road to S. Hill St.
  • Doyle St. From Big A Road to S. Pond St.
  • East Tugalo St. From Big A Rd to the Railroad underpass
  • Green Forest Drive from Falls Rd to the dead end
  • Hilltop Lane from Collins Rd to the dead end
  • Hilltop Way from Collier Rd to Madison Dr.
  • Pebblecreek Drive from Julia Lane to Rothell Rd.
  • Riley St. From Craig St. to the dead end
  • West Franklin St. From S. Sage St. to Highway 365
  • West Savannah Street from N. Broad St. to N. Pine St.

Morse said the work is expected to begin in the spring and continue through the summer.
