Carnes Creek Volunteer Fire Department’s Tree wins grand prize in Festival of Trees

The winner has been announced for this year’s Christmas Fest’s Festival of Trees.

Carnes Creek Volunteer Fire Department has been named the winner.

The Carnes Creek Volunteer Fire Department’s tree focused on the importance of knowing how to use a fire extinguisher. And volunteers passed out coloring books for the children which teach basic fire safety facts.

Ten trees were on display, during the two day festival, and over 900 votes were made.

Main Street Toccoa’s Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby told WNEG News about the event.

She says businesses and non-profit organizations, decorated the trees, many with themes that reflected their organization.

Each group received the proceeds from their votes, with the tree with the most votes taking home a $500 grand prize.

Crosby says the community came together and shared an evening of Christmas joy.

She also reminds the community of “Toccoa on Ice,” the ice-skating rink set up in the parking lot along East Tugalo Street in Downtown Toccoa.

The rink is open Fridays from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.; Saturdays from 12:00 – 9:00 p.m.; and Sundays from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. throughout the month of December.

The cost to skate is $5 per person.
