Carley Funderburke’s Big Day Propels Stephens County Varsity Indians Past Tallulah Falls
Carley Funderburke drove in five runs on three hits to lead the Stephens County Lady Indians past Tallulah Falls 20-0 on Monday. Funderburke hit a grand slam to left field in the first inning, scoring four runs, and doubled in the second inning, scoring one.
The Lady Indians scored 11 runs in the first inning on the way to victory. Fayeth Ivester grounded out, scoring one run, Carson Stowe singled, scoring two runs, Maddison McGee grounded out, scoring one run, Hallee Shirley doubled, scoring two runs, Nyleigh Hutto drew a walk, scoring one run, and Funderburkes grand slam brought in four.
Stephens County scored six runs on five hits in the top of the second inning. Addison Vandal singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Payton McEntire induced Ivester to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, Hutto grounded out, scoring one run, Funderburke doubled, scoring one run, and AuBree Jackson singled, scoring one run. The Lady Indians then added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Bailee Shedd doubled, Shirley hit into a fielder’s choice, and Hutto singled, each scoring one run.
Madyson Wilson started in the circle for Stephens County, giving up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking none. Shedd tossed one inning of shutout ball for the Lady Indians in relief, allowing one hit, striking out two and walking none.
The Lady Indians piled up 15 hits in the game. Funderburke and Shirley each collected three hits, with Hutto, Stowe, and Vandal each collecting multiple hits. Shirley stole four bases. The Lady Indians had six walks for the game, tallied eight stolen bases and committed no errors.
Also, the Lady Indians took a 14-2 run rule game against Hart County last night, Sept. 10 during Senior Night, and WNEG Sports will provide recap of that game as soon as stats are available. The JV Lady Indians also were triumphant over Hart County last night.
The Lady Indians are now 15 and 2 on the season and will be on the road tomorrow for a 5:30 p.m. game against East Jackson.
