Bulldogs Sweep Indians in Hartwell

The Hart County Bulldogs swept a doubleheader over the Stephens County Indians on Thursday night in Hartwell to all but eliminate the Indians for state playoff contention.

In game one, Paul Davis hit a three-run homerun in a 6 run 2nd inning and had 4 RBI’s to lead the Bulldogs to an 11-2 victory.

Colby Fowler hit a solo homerun and Ben Stowe had 2 hits for the Indians. Stephens County was equal to Hart County with 9 hits but left 8 men on base.

Hart County’s Reece Maxwell pitched a complete game giving up 2 runs on 9 hits and striking out 3.

Garrett Pless took the loss to fall to 5-3 on the season.

In game two, Hart County broke open a pitcher’s duel with a 4-run 6th inning and took a 6-0 shutout victory over the Indians.

Hart County led 2-0 until the 6th inning by taking advantage of 4 Indian errors with 2 unearned runs. The Bulldogs scored 4 in the 6th on 4 hits.

Grant Babbitt pitched well in the loss for the Indians allowing just 2 earned runs and 3 hits in 5 innings of work. Will Pittman and Zach Dombrowski combined to het the shutout for the Bulldogs.

Both teams had 6 hits in the game and Fowler led the Indians offense with 2 hits.

Hart County improves to 5-7 in region 8-AAA play, now leads the Indians by two games, and own the tiebreaker for the final spot to advance to the state playoffs. The Bulldogs just need one win against Monroe Area or a Stephens County loss to Franklin County to wrap up the final spot.

Stephens County falls to 3-9 in the region and 12-13 overall. The next game is Tuesday at Region Champion Franklin County.
