Bulldogs Sweep in Indians Final Regular Season Road Games

The Hart County girls and boys basketball teams took a step closer to gaining 2nd place in region-8 AA and clinching a bye in the region tournament with wins over Stephens County on Tuesday night in Hartwell.

In the girls’ game, Hart County had balanced scoring with nine different players scoring to roll to a 14-point victory 48-34 over the Lady Indians.

Kiasia Montgomery and London Durrett scored 9 points each to lead the Lady Bulldogs, now 6-3 in the region and 14-10 overall.

Lanesia Verdell scored 10 points and Fayeth Ivester and Aleria Faulkner scored 8 each for Stephens County, now 1-7 in the region and 3-20 overall.

In the boys’ game, Stephens County trailed by only 7 points at halftime but was outscored 27-11 in the 3rd quarter and Hart County defeated the Indians 88-58.

The Bulldogs had four players in double figures led by Kirston Curry with 22 points, Zayden Leverette with 15 points, Andrew Maxwell with 14 points and Ramarcus Simpson with 10.

Hart County improves to 6-3 in the region and 16-8 overall.

Jayden Haynie scored 11 points and CJ Harbin added 10 for Stephens County, now 0-8 in the region and 1-21 overall.

Both Stephens County teams return to Currahee Arena for the final regular season games on Thursday and Friday. The Indians will host East Jackson on Thursday with the girls’ game at 6 P.M. and airtime at 5:45 P.M. on WNEG.
