BREAKING NEWS: Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa bought by Texas-based company Pine Cove Christian Camps

The Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa has been sold.

According to an article released on Christianindex.org, Pine Cove Christian Camps, which is based out of Texas, purchased the property.

The sale was made official on December 22, 2020.

Pine Cove’s Southeast Vision and Strategy Officer Bill Wellons says the organization is thrilled to be continuing similar work at the location.

Pine Cove provides Christian Summer Camps for kids and families; and the organization currently hosts camps in Texas and South Carolina.

According to Pine Cove’s website, they have around 2,000 college students help staff the camps every summer and around 200,000 campers attend annually.

Wellons says quote “We’re Christ-centered, others focused, and seriously fun…We’re evangelism based, and we introduce Jesus to these campers.”

Pine Cove also owns a family camp in Chimney Point at Lake Hartwell.

As part of the sale, Pine Cove has given concessions to Georgia Baptists who might use the facilities in the future.

Chief Operating Officer of the Georgia Baptist Mission Board David Melber says the concessions for Georgia Baptists include six preferred dates at discounted rates in the fall and spring months, discounted rates for summer, and a 50 percent discount for any youth part of a Georgia Baptist Church.

In September of 2020, WNEG News reported the Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa was put up for sale after reports of decades of financial losses.

Operations at the Toccoa Baptist Conference Center were suspended as of September 30.

Wellons says the Toccoa property will be closed for approximately 18 months for renovations.
