BREAKING NEWS: 1 dead after 4 adults overdose at local hotel

WNEG News has learned of an incident that occurred Tuesday night at a Stephens County hotel.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, on May 19, just after 11:30 p.m. officers responded to a welfare check at the Quality Inn, located on Stephens Circle, in Toccoa, in reference to a possible drug overdose.

Once officers made entry into the room there were four unconscious adults located.

Mize says EMS, Toccoa Fire and First responders were quickly on the scene and administered NARCAN to the victims.

All four were taken to the Stephens County Hospital, where one died due to complications from the overdose.

The three remaining victims have been admitted to Stephens County Hospital and are under a doctor’s care.

Mize says this case is still under investigation by the GBI and ARDEO Task Force along with investigators from the Toccoa Police Department.

Evidence located at the scene is being processed by the GBI Crime Lab.

Additionally, Mize says due to the nature of this ongoing investigation, the identity of those involved is being withheld at the time pending the investigation and family notifications.
