Stephens County Board of Education Adopts 2020 Budget

The Stephens County Board of Education held the 2nd public reading of the Fiscal Year 2020 budget at Tuesday night’s meeting, and it was unanimously adopted.

Stephens County Schools Superintendent Bryan Dorsey outlined the budget’s key components.

“What we are looking at is a balanced budget between our revenues and expenditures which includes the $3000 certified staff increases on their salary schedule, and 2% increase for our classified employees,” he told the Board. “Holding our millage rate to 16.8 and we are able to balance all of that. While the raises were about 1.5 million, the adjustments we made with some reductions, while trying to move a few things that were SPLOST eligible, is how we are making that balance. We feel good about our budget. We feel like it is responsible and look forward to another good sound fiscal year.”

Other actions taken by the Board included the approval of fund raising, field trip requests, and CTAE allocation.

Also approved was the 16.8 millage rate, the school code of conduct with regards to Stephens County Middle School and 5th Grade Academy.

The Board made no changes to the nutrition program.
