Billy Joe Cheek
Billy Joe Cheek, age 78, of Eastanollee and Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away on January 30, 2026.
Born April 27, 1947, he was the son of the late Ralph and Flora Mae Cheek, one of eight children. He graduated from Stephens County High School in 1966 and shortly thereafter married Hellon Meece, with whom he shared 34 years of marriage until her passing in 2001. Together, they built a life rooted in love, hard work, and family.
Billy Joe devoted his career to the construction industry. A skilled craftsman, he worked in carpentry, drywall, and commercial construction and spent many years as a Superintendent with New South Construction. He retired in 2021.
Known for his steadfast heart and strong character, Billy Joe was trusted for his guidance and advice. He enjoyed racing motorcycles in his younger years, hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling. Above all, he cherished his family and grandchildren, who affectionately called him Papa Joe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hellon Cheek; his parents; and his brothers, Charlie and Jimmy Cheek. He is survived by his partner, Brenda Anderson; son Ty Cheek (Ellen); daughter Shea Brislin (Tyler); four grandchildren; a brother and four sisters; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family thanks Northeast Georgia Palliative Care, Family Hospice, and Haven Memory Care of Athens for their compassionate care.
Billy Joe Cheek will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. May it bring comfort and peace to know that the Heavens roared with glory to welcome him home to a world full of everlasting youth and joy.
Memorial Services Sunday, February 8, 2026, 3 p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home.
