Banks County Sweeps Indians in Home Opener

Carl Cleveland scored 45 points for Banks County, 30 in the 2nd half to lead the Leopards to an 83-78 win over Stephens County in the Indians home opener Saturday night at the Currahee Arena.

Cleveland also went over the 1000 point mark while at Banks County High School in the game. The Indians took the lead briefly in both halves, but Cleveland answered with key buckets to secure the win.

Stephens County was led by senior Ty Nails with 29 points, Takias Nails added 14 points, and Kenny Colwell and Nigel Green were also in double figures with 11 points apiece.

The loss drops the Indians to 2-2 on the season. Banks County improves to 2-2.

In the girls contest, Banks County’s Jaycie Brown scored 29 points, also surpassing the 1000 point mark while at the school, and the Lady Leopards rolled to a 63-35 win over the Lady Indians.

Stephens County scored the game’s first 4 points, but Banks County outscored Stephens County 13-2 the rest of the quarter and increased their lead throughout.

The Lady Indians were led by NaNa Eades with 9 points, and Renajah Verdell and Savannah Broska added 8 each.

The Lady Indians fall to 1-2 on the season. Banks County improves to 4-0.

Stephens County will return to the court on Tuesday night when both teams travel to Rabun County. Airtime is set for 5:45 P.M. on WNEG with the girls contest scheduled to start at 6 P.M. and the boys game to follow.
