Amtrak to resume daily services for several train routes

Amtrak announces daily service will resume for several of its trains on the Amtrak’s National Network.

As WNEG News reported last October, Amtrak reduced service on many long-distance train routes, including the Crescent, which makes three stops in Georgia, with one of those stops being here in Toccoa-Stephens County.

According to Rail Passengers Association President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Mathews, the American Rescue Plan COVID relief bill, passed by Congress and signed by President Joe Biden, will provide funding to allow the restoration of the daily service for those train routes.

Beginning on May 24: California Zephyr, running from Chicago to Emeryville; Coast Starlight, running from Los Angeles to Seattle; Empire Builder, running from Chicago to Seattle/Portland; and Texas Eagle, running from Chicago to San Antonio/Los Angeles will resume daily operations.

On May 31: Capitol Limited, running from Washington to Chicago; City of New Orleans, running from Chicago to New Orleans; Lake Shore Limited, running from Chicago to New York/Boston; and Southwest Chief, running from Chicago to Los Angeles will resume daily operations.

Then on June 7: Crescent, running from New York to New Orleans; Palmetto, running from New York to Savannah; Silver Meteor, running from New York to Miami, and Silver Star, running from New York to Miami will resume daily operations.
