Amnesty Day event moved to Saturday, May 18

Amnesty Day in Stephens County has been rescheduled for this weekend.

Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful in conjunction with Stephens County, is holding the first Amnesty Day Celebration of 2019.

This annual event, open to every resident of Stephens County, provides a way to dispose of any junk that may be cluttering the streets, yards, and homes in the county.

Stephens County Board of Commissioners Vice Chair Dennis Bell says that this is an opportunity to help out your elderly neighbors, who may have items that need to be thrown away.

The Amnesty Day event is held at the Stephens County Road Department, located at 1597 Scenic Drive, in Toccoa, and begins at 8 a.m. and will remain open until 3 p.m., on Saturday, May 18.

Bell says that without the participation of the City of Toccoa, the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce and Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful, Amnesty Day would not be possible.

County officials are reminding everyone that no tires, liquids or commercial construction materials will be accepted.

All small loose trash must be in garbage bags, and if you have paint cans they must be completely dried out.

Stephens County Amnesty Day is only for residents of Stephens County, officials will be on site, checking vehicle tags at the entrance.

If you have an out-of-town tag, to prove your residency please bring a piece of mail, such as a utility bill, and your driver’s license or ID with your Stephens County Address.
