Advance In Person Voting for Runoff Begins Monday

On May 23, the official notice of the upcoming runoff election was published, stating that a runoff election for the Stephens County Commission Post 3 Republican Primary between Republican candidate James Addison, who received a total of 1,925 votes in the May 21 General Primary, or 46% of the 4,149 votes cast in the race, and Republican Candidate Craig Oglesby, who received a total of 1,229 votes in the General Primary, or 30%  of the total votes in the race. 

Under Georgia Code, Title 21, if no candidate in a race receives more than 50% of the votes cast in the race, a runoff between the candidates receiving the two highest numbers of votes must be held. 

Republican candidate Mark Marsteller, who received the remaining 995 votes, or 24%, will not be included on the ballot for the runoff election. 

Election day for the Republican Primary Runoff election will be Tuesday, June 18, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The advance in person voting period will begin this coming Monday, June 10 and end on Friday, June 14, with polls open between the hours 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day. All voting, including Election Day voting, will take place at the Historic Courthouse located at 37 W. Tugalo Street.

As earlier reported by WNEG News, Stephens COunty Elections Supervisor Bruce Carlisle explained that, since the runoff race is between Republican candidates, those who voted on a Democrat ballot in the General Primary will not be able to cast a vote in the runoff election. 

Also, the Stephens County Board of Elections and Registration has posted official notice that the Board will meet for a Special Called Meeting on Tuesday, June 18, in The Historic Courthouse located at 37 West Tugalo Street in Toccoa, to begin Early Processing and Tabulation of absentee ballots for the June 18 Republican Primary Runoff Election. Processing and Tabulation will take place at 37 W. Tugalo Street from 5:00 PM. until 7:00 PM. The public is invited to observe the process.
