Accident on I-85 near Georgia and South Carolina State Line

A tractor-trailer hauling vehicles overturned early Wednesday, July 1, on I-85 southbound in Oconee County. The accident occurred at the bridge leading to Georgia. HAZMAT had to deal with a spill of truck fuel into Lake Hartwell. Much of the southbound traffic was detoured onto Highway 123, which created heavy traffic on the two-lane road between Westminster and Toccoa. A contractor for the South Carolina Highway Patrol worked overnight to repair damaged pavement and a guardrail caused by the crash.
