A review of 2017: city events

As 2017 wraps up, and we begin to approach a new year it’s a good opportunity to take a look at this past year.

In 2017, there was an increase in foot traffic and visitors in the City of Toccoa.

With over 81,000 local and visiting patrons attending the 100 plus events held in the downtown area.

Main Street Toccoa’s Community Development Director Connie Tabor, told WNEG News that the largest attended event to date was the Great American Solar Eclipse, held Aug. 21.

In May, the inaugural “Toast of Toccoa,” was held drawing a crowd of 3,000 visitors, Tabor added.

The event was a mixture of art as well as a beer and wine festival, which included four wineries and eight different types of beer.

The vast majority of artists at the event were local.

April proved to be a great month for Toccoa, with the Spring Ramble which enticed visitors with tours of 16 places in the city, including historic houses, Travelers Rest, Toccoa Falls, and the Museums; also, the city showcased the completion and opening of the Reflections Event Center at Lake Toccoa.

Another large event was the Ida Cox Music Series held in the summer, Tabor said.

Tabor added that this past year has shown how well the community has begun pulling together by attending these events.
