Humane Shelter Board Votes to Terminate Shelter Director

At a called meeting of the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter Board, held yesterday, June 11, at 1:30 p.m. at City Hall, Board members voted to terminate the employment of Shelter Executive Director Jeff Roberts, effective June 30.

Immediately upon convening the meeting, the nine-member Board retired into executive session to discuss personnel matters. After an extended discussion, the Board reconvened in open session and a motion by Board Member Chuck Wright, seconded by Board Member Tug Carter, to immediately terminate Roberts failed. After several motions and motion amendments, the motion to terminate Roberts effective June 30, and to begin the search for a new shelter director immediately, passed in a split vote, 5-2.

Board members made no official statement on the action beyond stating that the shelter would now be moving in a new direction.
