Today is Election Day in Stephens County

Today is election day in Stephens County.

Beginning at 7 a.m., residents of Stephens County will go to the Stephens County Senior Center, located on Rose Lane, in Toccoa, to cast ballots until polls close at 7 p.m.

Stephens County Registrar Eureka Gober says the polls will be set up as normal; however, she says residents who live in the city of Toccoa will vote at two locations.

City of Toccoa residents wishing to cast a ballot for the city commission post 2 race, will need to vote at Toccoa City Hall, located at 92 North Alexander Street, in Toccoa.

Only residents of the city of Toccoa are eligible to cast ballots in the Toccoa City Commission Post 2 race.

Gober adds that Toccoa residents wanting to cast ballots for the SPLOST referendum will need to vote at the Senior Center.

The senior center is the polling precinct for all Stephens County residents casting ballots for the referendum calling for the continuation of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.

If voters approve the SPLOST VII referendum then collection of the one-cent sales tax will go into effect on July 1, 2020.

If approved, Stephens County and its municipalities will begin receiving revenue from SPLOST VII in January 2021.

Gober adds that today is the last day to return absentee paper ballots to the Registrar’s Office for anyone who has requested one.

All absentee ballots must have been post marked no later than today, November 5, or returned to the Registrar’s Office no later than 7 p.m., in order to be counted.

For questions about voting, contact the Stephens County Registrar’s Office by calling 706-886-8954.

WNEG will bring you the election results on 93.1 FM and AM 630 WNEG and online at wnegradio.com as they come in.
