A high-speed chase Monday afternoon ended with the arrest of a New York woman.

It happened about 2p Monday afternoon on I-85 north in Franklin County.

Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas says the chase started after the driver refused to pull over for a routine traffic stop.

“A deputy from the Franklin County Sheriff’s office attempted to stop a 2016 Audi Q6 on I-85 northbound for traffic violations,” he said. “The vehicle failed to stop and began driving recklessly by passing vehicles in the emergency lane at high rates of speed. During the pursuit, the vehicle reached speeds of 140mph. Deputies reached the Hart County line where stop sticks were used by the Georgia State Patrol and the vehicle came to rest shortly after.”

The driver was identified as Alvena Forbes of Mt. Vernon, NY.

She was arrested and charged with multiple traffic violations, felony fleeing and attempting to elude, and driving on a suspended license.

Thomas said Forbes told officers she fled because she was driving on a suspended New York license.

He said a passenger traveling with her was not charged and released.
