Woman arrested after parking outside a closed shop

On Thursday, shortly before midnight, a Toccoa Police Department officer noticed a vehicle parked outside a closed shop, while patrolling on Elberton and Avon Streets.

The officer stopped to investigate the parked car.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, the driver of the vehicle, Carey Lea Wilbanks, 38, of Toccoa, told the officer she was waiting on the owner of the shop to come change out her rims.

As Wilbanks searched her purse for her I.D., the officer noted that her eyes appeared to be glassy and dilated.

Using a flashlight to check her eyes, the officer noted what is typical of methamphetamine use.

After several failed attempts at field sobriety tests, Wilbanks was arrested.

Soon after, she admitted to having a baggie of methamphetamine and a baggie of Klonopin in her bra.

Wilbanks also had two loaded syringes in her car.

She was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, possession of a schedule I controlled substance and possession of a schedule IV controlled substance.
