Indians Teams fall at Rabun Gap

The Stephens County Indians and Lady Indians were swept in a basketball doubleheader Tuesday night at Rabun Gap Nacoochee School.

Both Rabun Gap teams featured size, and multiple nationalities, with the Eagles represented by nine different nations, and the Lady Eagles eight.

The Indians had their 3-game winning streak snapped falling 85-63. Rabun Gap led 18-10 after the 1st quarter and took a 15-point lead into halftime. The Indians cut a 24-point lead to 12 in the 2nd half, but that would be as close as they would get.

Stephens County had three players in double figures led by Aaron Scott with 16 points, Cornelius Curry had 15, and Corey Richie added 11.

Rabun Gap was led by Nate Brafford, from Waynesville, North Carolina, with 25 points.

Rabun Gap improves to 10-6. Stephens County falls to 3-11.

In the girl’s game, Rabun Gap outscored the Lady Indians 23-4 in the 2nd quarter and rolled to a 63-28 victory.

MyAngel Carter led the Lady Indians with 8 points, and eight Lady Indians scored in the game. Tuana Coskin, from Istanbul, Turkey, led the Lady Eagles with 15 points.

The Lady Indians record is now 1-13 on the season. Rabun Gap improves to 11-4.

Both Stephens County teams will begin Region-8 AAA play on Friday night when they host rival Franklin County at Currahee Arena. Airtime on WNEG is set for 6:45 P.M.

Stephens County will step back out of Region-8 play on Saturday when they host Madison County. The 1971 teams will be honored at halftime during the games. Airtime Saturday on WNEG will be 3:45 P.M.
