Warriors Take Two from Indians

The Stephen County Indians dropped a Region 8-AAA double-header to the Oconee County Warriors Friday night at the Reservation by scores of 13-5 and 6-1.

The Indians jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first game, scoring three runs in the first inning on singles by Carson Worley, Ben Stowe, Ian Rumsey and Garrett Pless. They scored another run in the bottom of the second inning.

After that, it was all Oconee County. The Warriors scored five runs in the top of the third
on a three run home run by Kyle Strickland, followed by a two run shot by Zack Bolding. Oconee County scored two more runs in the fourth inning, four in the fifth inning and T.L.Saxon homered in the seventh with a man on to round out the scoring. Freshman Craig Thurmond scored a run in the fifth inning for the Indians final run.

Patrick Murray went the first three innings for the Indians and took the loss. He gave up seven runs, but struck out five and walked one. Ian Rumsey tossed an inning and a third and Garrett Burgess finished out the game.

Junior left hander Sam Carter picked up the win for Oconee County, pitching four and
two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking two. Colby Snow finished out the game for the Warriors.

Oconee County sophomore Banks Arnold held the Indians to just four hits while striking out nine in six innings as the Warriors beat the Indians 6-1 in the second game. Colby Snow finished the game in the seventh, giving up a run on just two hits.

Nick Randall took the loss for Stephens County, going three innings, giving up four runs and striking out two .Garrett Pless was impressive in relief, retiring nine of
the twelve men he faced, the last six in a row.

Oconee County is now 13-5 overall and 5-1 in Region 8-AAA.Stephens County falls to 6-11 on the season and 1-5 in Region 8-AAA.

The Indians return to the Reservation Tuesday against Region opponent East Jackson. Game time is 5:45PM with air time at 5:30PM.
