Saturday’s Ida Cox Concert to Feature Four Performers and Ken Burns Documentary Preview

A preview of the new Ken Burns Documentary, “Country Music” will be show at Saturday’s Ida Cox concert

The Ida Cox Music series returns this weekend with a different venue and a different twist.

Saturday, in addition to musical performers, a preview of Ken Burn’s new Public Broadcasting documentary, “Country Music” will also be shown.

The preview in Toccoa Saturday is part of a promotional tour for the 16-hour documentary, which chronicles the history of country music in America, according to Main Street Event Coordinator Sharon Crosby.

“Georgia Public Broadcasting is doing premieres around the state and they asked us if we would be interested in having it premiere here in Toccoa,” Crosby said. “Unfortunately, he (Ken Burns) won’t be here, and it will only be a 30-minute showing of the entire series, but we’re just really excited that they chose us for one of the venues and included us in that tour.”

But Ida Cox concert goers will still be able to enjoy not one, but four different performers Saturday night.

Crosby says the concert will move to in front of the Ritz Theatre where three local music artists will be featured at 7p.

“The first hour, we will be located outside of the Ritz. We will have a tent set up and chairs and we’ll have our stage out there,” Crosby explained. “We will have three local groups. We will start out with Shauna Fortson, followed by David Fry, and then the third act will be Daniel Mack and his band. Each performer will about 15 minutes on stage.”

Edgar Loudermilk and Band will perform Saturday after the preview

Then at 8p, the entertainment will move inside the Ritz for the showing of the “Country Music” preview.

“At 8p, we will go inside the theatre and we will show the Ken Burn’s documentary preview. We will also have representatives from Georgia Public Broadcasting. After the showing, Edgar Loudermilk will perform. He is internationally known for his Blue Grass music. So, we’re excited that he is going to be a part of it as well.”

And as always, there will be food trucks as well as beer and wine vendors on site.

Both the concerts and the documentary showing are free.

Again, the Ida Cox concert this Saturday will be held in front of the Ritz Theatre and begins at 7p.
