2023-24 Code of Conduct approval among agenda items for 5/16 Board of Education meeting

The Stephens County School Board met Thursday afternoon, May 11, for a work session in advance of next week’s May 16 school board meeting.  

Agenda items scheduled for discussion or action at the May 16 board meeting were introduced by Stephens County School Superintendent Connie Franklin, with no significant comment or questions by board members during the work session. 

No Board actions or votes were taken during the work session. The Board convened an executive session following the work session to discuss personnel matters – no action was taken following the executive session. 

The agenda for next week’s meeting, to be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Stephens County School Administration Building on Big A School Road, is copied below. 

Agenda items include approval of the monthly budget report and ESPLOST activity report, as well as approval of upcoming school-led fundraisers and field trips.

The CTAE Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment 2023 – 2024 District Report is on the agenda for approval. WNEG will provide a closer look at the report in a follow-up article next week. 

Approval of facilities expenditures is also included on the agenda, including:

1: Replacement of a projector and torn screen at the Tugaloo Performing Arts Center 

Three bids were received: 

Howard Technology Solutions $36,201.05

The Technology Dept. recommends approval of the Howard Technology Solutions bid in the amount of $36,201.05 plus a 10% contingency, stating “Howard Technology Solutions’ quote provides the most detailed picture of quality materials at a good price. Howard has a good reputation in the education sector for quality work.”

Funding Source: SPLOST

2. Completion of the Eastanollee Video Surveillance project (Installation of security cameras, cabling and the video surveillance server at the Eastanollee Campus.)

Three bids were received: 

Risk Response Team $32,432.10

Cirrus Networks $31,560

The Technology Dept. recommends Risk Response Team to complete the Eastanollee Video Surveillance project in the amount of $32,432.10 plus a 15% contingency, stating “The quote for Risk Response Team is providing the best combination of the number of cameras installed, installation and pricing. Risk Response Team has a good reputation in the education sector for quality work.”

Funding Source: Safety Grant (100%)

3. Purchase of a refrigerator for Stephens County Middle School to replace an old, outdated unit.

Three quotes were received: 

Boelter/Citisco $14,588.34

Manning Brothers $15,053.10

Norvell Fixture $17,615

The recommendation to the board is the purchase of Victory Refrigeration 2 Door Reach In Refrigerator from Boelter/Citisco in the amount of $14,588.34.

Funding Source: School Nutrition budget

A list of school system payroll dates for FY 2024 is on the agenda for approval.

Also on the agenda are approval of documents covering code of conduct, dress code, and approved clubs for each individual school for the 2023-24 school year.

Approval of updates to the school system’s purchasing policy (draft), and tuition policy (proposed), are also included on the agenda for next weeks’ school board meeting.
