1973 Stephens County High School State Championship baseball team will be recognized tonight during SCHS Baseball Team’s Doubleheader Game against Oconee County

The 1973 Stephens County High School state championship baseball team will be recognized this evening in a ceremony at the SCHS baseball field.

SCHS Head Baseball Coach Greg McCall, coaching staff and current players will honor the Indians tonight in between games of a Region 8-AAA doubleheader against Oconee County.

First pitch for game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 5 p.m. A formal trophy presentation was never made to the 1973 Indians team after it captured the Class-AA championship.

McCall will present the trophy to ‘73 Indians Coach Jerry Carroll and members of that team present at tonight’s game.

Stephens County hosted Southwest DeKalb, the state’s number two ranked team, at Doyle Street Park in Toccoa on Friday, June 1, 1973.

And the Indians responded with 3-2 wins in each game to capture the Class AA (the state’s second largest classification at the time) title.

WNEG will broadcast tonight’s doubleheader with airtime at 4:45 as well as the ceremony between games.
