1,360 local children receive gifts through Toys for Tots

The citizens of Stephens County banded together, yet again, to ensure the youth of Stephens and surrounding counties had gifts on Christmas day.

That’s according to Local “Toys for Tots” Coordinator Don Alexander.

Alexander told WNEG News that the 2018 Marine “Toys for Tots” campaign was able to provide 1,360 children with toys for Christmas.

Alexander added that the support for “Toys for Tots” was tremendous again this year.

He said the outpouring of community support they’ve received has allowed them to give even more.

He noted that without the support of the community, the success of “Toys for Tots” would not have been possible.

“At the beginning of this year’s campaign, we were struggling financially, but, the last time I was on the radio, I talked about our financial need, and after that there has been several businesses and citizens who have called me to come pick up a check, or toys. My favorite part is to see the community come together to help a cause,” he said.

“Toys for Tots” is a program of the Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve that collects and distributes toys to children and families in need each holiday season.

The primary goal of the “Toys for Tots” is to help bring the joy of Christmas and send a message of hope to America’s less fortunate children, through the gift of a new toy.
