Wreck Last Friday Injures Toccoa Man

Authorities have released information on an accident that injured a Toccoa man last week.

It occurred on Friday at 5:07 p.m. on Defoor Road, just south of Whispering Pines Road.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer driven by 19-year-old Megan Ashley Rose Squires of Eastanollee was traveling north on Defoor Road when it ran off of the east shoulder of the roadway.

The GSP said Squires then overcorrected and caused her vehicle to cross over both travel lanes and off of the west shoulder of the roadway.

Meanwhile, a 2003 Honda CR-V driven by 69-year-old Alvin Thomas Ayers of Toccoa was traveling south on Defoor Road and steered to the right off of the west shoulder of the roadway in an attempt to avoid collision.

However, troopers said the front of the Trailblazer struck the front of the CR-V.

The road was wet and it was raining at the time of the crash and the report states that Squires says she hydroplaned and lost control of her vehicle.

She and a 2-year-old passenger were not transported for treatment.

However, the GSP said Ayers was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

According to the GSP, Squires was cited for failure to maintain lane and driving too fast for conditions.
