Wreck Kills Eastanollee Man
A one-car accident in Stephens County takes the life of an Eastanollee man.
According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, 47-year-old Clay Lawrence Cheek died after the one-car accident Thursday afternoon on Georgia Highway 145 near Tom’s Creek Baptist Church.
The Georgia State Patrol report indicated that just before 3 p.m., Cheek was traveling north on Highway 145 when his 1999 Chevy Tahoe left the roadway and struck a tree stump head-on.
Troopers stated in the report that the vehicle showed no signs of braking or swerving prior to striking the stump.
Cheek was pronounced dead after being taken away by helicopter to Anderson, South Carolina.
Nobody else was in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved.
