WNEG Announces 2017 Senior of the Year

WNEG celebrates Elder Americans month on Thursday with the 2017 WNEG Senior Expo.

Included with this year’s Expo was information booth’s from businesses and organizations, door prizes, and lunch for the participants provided by Bojangles of Toccoa.

Each year WNEG accepts nominations for the WNEG Senior of the Year. The 2017 WNEG Senior of the Year is Ray Whiten. Whiten was thrilled to receive the award.

“I’m speechless. I just appreciate it so much,” said Whiten. “We say thank you and praise the Lord for all of his goodness to me. God bless.”

Whiten grew up in Toccoa and graduated from Furman University with a music degree. He formed The Singing Saints, a Toccoa Community Choir that performs in Toccoa and surrounding communities, helped form the 2:20 Fellowship for Seniors at Ebenezer Baptist Church, has formed and directed a choir at Alto Prison for men and women, helps support the Care Givers Support Group at Sunnyside Baptist Church, has served many years as a Choir Director and Minister of Music, and currently serves as Choir Director at Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
