Winter Weather Advisory Taking Effect Later Today in Stephens Co.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Stephens County starting at noon today and lasting through Tuesday at 7 a.m.

National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg Meteorologist Neil Dixon said, however, that most of the precipitation in Stephens County is expected to be of the unfrozen variety.

“Fortunately, most of the precipitation that develops later on today and this evening is going to fall mostly as a cold rain,” said Dixon.  “There will be some overlap with precipitation and freezing temperatures.”

As a result, Dixon said that light accumulation of frozen precipitation is possible, especially in the northern part of Stephens County, as well as on bridges and overpasses.

Dixon said that frozen precipitation is more likely at a couple of different points as the system moves through.

Dixon goes on to say that once this moves, people need to brace for much colder weather with possible record lows later in the week.
