Winter Storm Warning In Effect

A winter storm warning remains in effect for Stephens County through 7 p.m. Saturday.

That is as a storm moves through the region over the next several hours and into the evening and overnight hours as well.

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has declared a state of emergency for 21 counties in Georgia due to the storm, including Stephens, Franklin, Habersham, Banks, Hart, and Rabun.

Speaking from one of the public works trucks, Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers says many of the roads are still in fairly good shape, though there are icy areas and more will develop with more precipitation tonight.

Ayers says work will continue through the night and into tomorrow and she adds that people should not get out and travel unless they have to tonight and early tomorrow.
