Officials with Windstream said Tuesday two different issues caused problems with some phone service in StephensCounty and the surrounding area in recent days.
According to a company spokesman, an initial interruption of long-distance service was traced to a defective piece of equipment, which the company says it replaced.
However, the company said at that point, some long-distance calls from cell phones to landline phones in Toccoa continued to be blocked or degraded.
Windstream crews continued to troubleshoot the outage and determined that a fiber cut was causing the remaining issues.
Repairs were made on that as well, according to the Windstream spokesman.
