William Tucker Retiring from Ga. Dept. of Veterans Services

Local and state officials turn out to recognize a local man for his service to veterans.

William Tucker is retiring from his position with the Georgia Department of Veterans’ Services.

He has worked out of the local office, serving Stephens and surrounding counties for 15 years.

On Friday, a reception was held in Tucker’s honor in the Mitchell Allen Room at the historic train depot in downtown Toccoa.

Gary Evans is the Regional Director for the North Georgia Region of the state Department of Veterans’ Services.

He said Tucker has done a great job in his time with the Department.

“He has absolutely been tremendous with the veterans in the five counties we serve,” said Evans.

Those five counties are Stephens, Habersham, White, Franklin, and Banks counties.

“The veterans here, they love him,” said Evans of Tucker.

Many well-wishers stopped by to thank Tucker for his service.

Tucker said he appreciates all of that support.

“It is really great to have worked all of the Georgia Department of Veterans’ Service people I have worked with and the veterans, the widows, and the families,” said Tucker. “It is great to have everyone come out today and wish me well.”

Tucker says he will still stay active in veterans’ groups like the Veterans of Foreign Wars, for which he serves currently as Post Adjutant.

“I do intend to stay involved,” said Tucker.
