Wilkinson Receives Committee Assignments

50th District State Senator John Wilkinson will remain the Chair of the State Senate’s Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee.

He received that assignment last week from the Senate’s Committee on Assignments.

Wilkinson said he is humbled that his fellow senators entrusted him with this committee for another legislative term and he added he looks forward to working to ensure Georgia’s agriculture industry continues to thrive, noting that agriculture provides employment to one in seven Georgians and has an economic impact of over $74 billion annually in the state.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle said that Wilkinson has distinguished himself as a leader in the Senate and Cagle added he looks forward to his work as chair of the Agriculture Committee and is confident Senator Wilkinson will bring a great deal of insight to the legislation that comes before his committee.

As a chair, Wilkinson will oversee the operation and order of that committee’s meetings, including calling for action on bills, resolutions, or other matters assigned to that committee.

In addition to being appointed chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, Wilkinson will also serve as vice chairman of Education and youth, ex-officio for the Rules Committee and as a member on the Appropriations and Natural Resources Committees.

The first session of the 154th Georgia General Assembly convened last Monday at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta.
