50th District State Senator John Wilkinson said a recent summit on agriculture went well.
Wilkinson and Elberton-areaState Representative Tom McCall co-hosted the Joint Agriculture Chairman Ag Issues Summit in Perry on Tuesday.
According to officials, legislators joined with agriculture community advocates to listen and learn on a variety of topics.
They included Georgia Agriculture Sales Tax Exemptions, Federal immigration reform, regional water planning and commercial driver’s license farm exemptions.
In addition, Georgia U.S. Representative Sanford Bishop provided an update on national agriculture policy.
Wilkinson said he is thankful for all those who participated in the summit.
The Toccoa Republican added that the turnout was great and it fostered a productive discussion on agriculture issues facing Georgia and the country as it moves into the next generation.
Wilkinson said he feels that by sharing these ideas together, the state can create more responsible legislation to promote agriculture growth in Georgia.
The Georgia Agribusiness Council, Georgia Farm Bureau, Georgia Forestry Association, Georgia Poultry Federation, and Georgia Urban Ag Council sponsored the meeting.
