Wet Weekend in Stephens Co.

There is a chance of more showers today after a wet and stormy weekend in northeast Georgia.

Storms moved through Stephens County and the region over the weekend, dumping heavy rain and bringing some high winds.

Between 7 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday, downtown Toccoa received 1.52 inches of rain.

Then, another .65 inches of rain was recorded at the WNEG studios in downtown Toccoa since 7 a.m. Sunday through now.

That puts the yearly precipitation total for downtown Toccoa at 5.59 inches.

More than two inches will hopefully continue to help the ongoing drought in the region.

The latest report of the U.S. Drought Monitor continues to place Stephens County and much of northeast Georgia in “extreme drought.”

That is the second-worst level of drought on the Drought Monitor scale, below only “exceptional drought.”

Also, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division continues to place Stephens County in a Level One drought status, having announced that initially back in November.
