Two people were injured following a weekend accident on Georgia Highway 17 in Stephens County.

The accident occurred on Highway 17 in Martin at about 7 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol.

According to the GSP, a vehicle driven by 61-year-old Larry Dale Bowen of Toccoa was traveling south on Highway 17, while a vehicle driven by 50-year-old Sandra Kay Patat of Toccoa was traveling north on Highway 17.

The GSP report states that Bowen lost control of his vehicle, which traveled into the northbound lane and struck Patat’s vehicle in the left front.

Bowen’s vehicle then continued off the road, striking a gas line. The gas line ruptured and caught on fire as a result of the accident.

Bowen was not injured, according to authorities.

Patat and a passenger in her vehicle, 34-year-old Carlos Moncada of Toccoa, were taken to Stephens County Hospital, according to the report.
