Preparations are underway for this year’s annual Veterans’ Day Observance in Stephens County.
The program will take place on Sunday, November 11 at 2 p.m. on the lawn of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.
It is hosted each year by the veterans’ organizations of Stephens County, including the American Legion Post 104, Marine Corp Detachment 1303, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4346.
William Tucker with American Legion Post 104 said that the emphasis of the program will be to honor living veterans and active duty military.
“We are asking our other organizations who participate to help us in making some type of honor to our living veterans and active duty military,” said Tucker.
Tucker went on to say that clubs and organizations are encouraged to come up with their own ideas as to how to do that.
“It could be a presentation of a flag to one of our local schools, to your church, contributions to the Civil Air Patrol or ROTC,” said Tucker. “Whatever you would like to do using your own imagination.”
Tucker says that organizers need to know of plans by Wednesday, November 7 to include them in the program, where public recognition will be given for those groups that participate.
