Two people are being sought in connection to a reported burglary earlier this month in Stephens County.
Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said his deputies were called to a Mize Road residence on June 15 in reference to the alleged burglary.
“Two individuals that were renting an apartment from the owner had taken guns, tools, and a lot of other miscellaneous items,” said Shirley. “The two suspects presented themselves through I guess you could say a false persona to rent the apartment from the victim. They lived in the apartment for about three weeks prior to the burglary.”
Shirley said the victim reported missing about $2,300 worth of items.
The sheriff said investigators, with the help of witnesses, identified the couple as 64-year-old Johnny Harold Cronan and 50-year-old Angela Linton.
Warrants have been issued for their arrest on charges of Burglary in the First Degree and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Shirley said the couple, who presented themselves as “Johnny and Angie Smiley” in renting the apartment, is originally from Tennessee.
He said authorities believe they are headed back there, perhaps to the Chattanooga area.
“Both have been entered into the NCIC (database) and will be extradited as soon as they are located,” said Shirley.
Shirley went on to say authorities are also pursuing other avenues in trying to track the pair.
“We are also checking the pawn shops throughout Georgia and in Tennessee,” said Shirley. “We work through the regional Organized Crime Information Center out of Tennessee. They are helping us determine where they may have tried to sell those guns.”
Shirley said Linton also has outstanding warrants in Effingham County, Georgia and Nashville, Tennessee for probation violations.
If anyone has information on these individuals, they should contact the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.
