Authorities said Thursday afternoon that two people were injured in a Thursday morning accident on Highway 17 in Stephens County.
According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened just after 6:30 a.m. Thursday on Highway 17 at Ogg’s Branch.
Authorities said that 43-year-old Nanna Mae Johnson of Canon was traveling north on 17 in a 2003 Jeep Liberty when she says an animal ran out in front of her vehicle.
The GSP report stated Johnson said she swerved to avoid the animal and struck the bridge.
Troopers said the vehicle then re-entered the highway and overturned onto its left side.
Johnson was taken by ambulance to Stephens County Hospital with what authorities describe as upper extremity injuries.
In addition, authorities said a passenger in the vehicle, 23-year-old Charles Matthew Johnson of Royston, was also taken by ambulance to Stephens County Hospital with neck injuries.
The accident stopped traffic on both directions on Highway 17 for a time during the morning hours Thursday.
