Two Injured in Monday Morning Accident

Details are out regarding Monday morning’s accident at a busy Toccoa intersection.

The accident occurred during the 7 a.m. hour at the intersection of Big A Road with Fernside Drive and Rose Lane.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, a Stephens County Sheriff’s Office 2015 Dodge Charger was traveling south on Big A Road in the left lane approaching its intersection with Rose Lane and Fernside Drive.

Meanwhile, the GSP reported that a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling west on Fernside Drive and attempting to cross over Big A Road onto Rose Lane.

Troopers reported that witnesses stated the Malibu had the green light, while the deputy’s vehicle had the red light.

In the report, the GSP said the deputy’s vehicle struck the Malibu in its right rear side with its front.

The report went on to say that after initial impact, the Malibu spun clockwise and came to a final rest on Rose Lane, while the deputy’s vehicle came to a final rest in the intersection.

According to the GSP, the driver of the deputy’s vehicle, 53-year-old Bruce L. Cleveland of Toccoa, said his brakes failed to work prior to the collision and he tried to swerve to the right to avoid the collision.

The report stated Cleveland was transported by Stephens County EMS to Stephens County Hospital with what were described as upper extremity injuries.

Meanwhile, the report stated the driver of the Malibu, 50-year-old Susan A. Allgood of Toccoa was transported to Stephens County Hospital by private vehicle with neck and back pain injuries.
